Pro-Choice Letter Template Post Roe v. Wade to Send to State Legislators

Updated: Jun 27, 2022

Understanding that many people want quick, easy actions they can take while still making a big impact, I did the legwork for you.

I wrote this letter that you're able to edit and then copy/paste into an email to send to your state legislators. (It has a watermark and a footer, so please make sure you just copy/paste it into an email, or if you want to send a physical letter, feel free to copy/paste it into a blank Word doc.)

Here's what you want to do:

  1. Download the Word document.

  2. Any area with red underlined text, change the text to the information requested.

  3. Visit Common Cause and enter your address. This will give you all your representatives.

  4. Make sure you're looking for the State Senator, State Representative, or the Assemblyperson. These are the state-level lawmakers and the ones you want to contact. Your U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative are members of Congress in the federal government, and now abortion rights lie with the powers of the states.

  5. Click on each of their names to take to you their page or website. You can choose if you want to email them or send them a physical letter.

  6. Copy/paste the letter template you edited into either an email or another word processor. Doing this will remove the WHE watermark and the footer. If it's a word processor, you'll print the mail and send it via USPS.

  7. RSVP to the Pro-Choice Representative Blitz event so we can keep track of how many letters we've sent.

Please note: I did read through the letter draft multiple times, but as I'm my own editor, if you notice any spelling or grammar mistakes, please let me know so I can get the form updated. When communicating with our representatives, of course we want to be as accurate and professional as possible.

Please share this article or the 10 Ways to Help After Roe v. Wade article with your friends and family. If we flood the offices and inboxes of our lawmakers, we can help them see how important this is for all of us, and pressure them into protecting abortion access and reproductive health in our states.
